Apple is expected to ship as many as 30.3 million iPhones this quarter, says investment firm Susquehanna.

That estimate is up from the firm’s prior projection of 27.1 million. And for Apple’s full fiscal 2012 year, which started in October, the company could ship as many as 111.4 million iPhones, up from Susquehanna’s previous estimate of 104.4 million.

The changes to the forecast stem from the continued heavy demand for theiPhone 4S along with reports that some of the supply chain constraints seem to have been resolved. as a result, Apple has increased itsiPhone build plans for both the current quarter and the first quarter of calendar year 2012, says Susquehanna.

“Demand appears solid as iPhone 4S continues to ship in one to two weeks online and stores are generally sold out for in-store reservation and pickup (still hoping Santa has a few left),” said Susquehanna analyst Jeffrey Fidacaro in an investor’s note released yesterday. “These factors, combined with positive color from best Buy and AT&T, led us to increase our iPhone shipment forecast for North America and modestly for Western Europe and Asia Pacific.”

Among the different U.S. carriers, AT&T is expected to sell as many as 7.2 million iPhones in the current quarter, up from Susquehanna’s previous estimate of 6 million. Verizon Wireless is now projected to sell 4.4 million phones this quarter, up from the prior projection of 3.6 million. but the forecast for Sprint remains unchanged at 1.75 million.

Looking ahead to next year, Susquehanna expects Apple to unveil theiPhone 5 sometime around June.

In news that is likely to ignite our founding editor’s freckle fetish, troubled popslut Lindsay Lohan is posing nude for Playboy.

Her fee? a cool $1 million … which we’re guessing goes a long way toward paying her legal bills.

The mean Girls star is currently performing community service at the Los Angeles County morgue – washing soiled linens and scrubbing toilets, among other chores. the work is a condition of her parole – the latest legal drama stemming from a 2007 DUI arrest and a 2009 conviction for stealing a $2,500 necklace.

The 25-year-old actress, who has battled alcohol and substance abuse issues, is no stranger to nudity. She’s posed semi-nude in the past (NSFW – click here) and had more than her fair share of swimsuit malfunctions (NSFW – click here and here).

No word yet on when the issue will hit newsstands, but you better believe we’ll be picking up a copy and bringing you a full report.

News of Lohan’s shoot – which reportedly started over the weekend – was first reported by gossip website TMZ.

Sure, you do!

That same person has unearthed a similar photo that proves John Travolta is also an undead Yankee…

I know.

That photo is frighteningly accurate, which really makes me wonder about a lot of things…

Firstly, it makes me really question the human race’s place in this world, you know?

I mean, it seems really species-centric to think that a spirit world with creatures and implications beyond our understanding doesn’t exist, right?

It also makes wonder why this story seems infinitely more believable than the one about John Travolta being heterosexual.

considered facebook, myspace, flickr..etc. the founders who created them start by paying hosting fee, getting a profit in month 2, etc. and making more money as it gets more popular.
What prompt them to sell off their site to big dog or sell shares to other biz and gain more venture capital? Is it not possible for a site to stand on its own and grow by itself thru its revenue?

Say i have a site i developed that's making 2-3G a month, all of the sudden i get 1 million venture capital, does that mean programming is no longer a priority for the founder as you can pay more techie to do things better/faster/productive, so what is a web developer suddenly become a businessman instead?

A bail hearing for Apple inc.manager Paul Devine, who has pleaded not guilty to charges thathe took at least $1 million in kickbacks from Asian suppliers,was re-scheduled for next week.

Devine, 37, a global-supply manager, was accused of moneylaundering and wire fraud in a 23-count indictment unsealed Aug.13 in federal court in San Jose, California. Prosecutors haveobjected to his release on bail, arguing he is a flight risk.

Lawyers for Devine and the U.S. Attorney’s office requestedin a court filing that his bail hearing be moved from today toAug. 23 because the “parties are engaged in discussionsconcerning the possibility of finding mutually-acceptableconditions for Mr. Devine’s release.”

U.S. Magistrate Judge Howard Lloyd granted the requesttoday.

Devine gave the suppliers of iPhone and iPod accessoriesconfidential data that helped them win better contracts fromCupertino, California-based Apple in exchange for payments,according to the indictment. each count of wire fraud, wirefraud conspiracy, and money laundering may bring a 20-yearprison sentence, prosecutors said.

The case is U.S. v. Devine, 10cr603, U.S. District Court,Northern District of California (San Jose).

A $1 million prize is on offer to anyone that can do a better job of cleaning up oil spills than BP.

Best-known for its efforts to launch the private spaceflight industry  and the ultra-fuel efficient vehicle market, the X Prize Foundation has launched the Wendy Schmidt Oil Cleanup X Challenge.

The prize is funded by Wendy Schmidt, wife of Google chairman Eric.the aim is to inspire entrepreneurs, engineers, and scientists worldwide to develop new and efficient methods of capturing crude oil from the ocean surface.

"with more then ten thousands of ocean oil platforms across the globe, and million of barrels of oil being transported every day by tankers, it’s not a question of ‘if’ there will be another oil spill, but ‘when’," says Wendy Schmidt.

"We need to come up with better solutions to capture oil on the surface, to minimize the harm these spills are causing to marine life, coastal wetlands, and beaches, and to our livelihoods – a harm that can last for generations. this is why I am personally funding this X Challenge: to inspire innovators around the world – and all those who want to help address what has happened in the Gulf – to focus on solutions to an ongoing, systemic problem."

The competition has two phases.

From now until next April, teams from around the world can register and submit their approach. the organizers are looking for techniques to clean up oil slicks created by spills or leaks from ships or tankers, land drainage, waste disposal, or oil platform spills.

An expert panel of judges from industry and academia will evaluate all of the proposals on the basis of their technical approach and commercialization plan, environmental impact, scalability and cost, and will look for improvements over today’s baseline booms and skimmers.

In phase  two, the judges will pick up to 10 of the top teams to compete in a head-to-head competition. the team that can recover oil on the sea-water surface most quickly and efficiently will win the $1 million Grand Purse. Second place will win $300,000 and third place $100,000.
